•5 p.m.- East Bend United Mathodist Church, Main street East Bend will host their Annual Chicken and Oyster Stew/Auction Sale. There is no charge for the meal but donations will be accepted. Bowls and spoons will be provided but you may also bring your own. Prior to the meal there will be a bake sale consisting of cakes, pies, breads, canned goods and other items. •The Forbush High School Athletic Booster Club members are hosting a BINGO NIGHT Fundraiser. We sincerely need the support of our business community to make this a successful fundraiser for our athletes. We are in need of 21 bingo prizes, ranging in value from $50 to $100+ per item. These prizes could be gift certificates, themed gift baskets (car wash, movie items, fishing, grilling, etc.), art, autographed memorabilia, or any valuable merchandise. Two American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists. •2 p.m.-6 p.m.-Yadkin Valley Cruisers “Cruise-In” - Christmas Toy Drive. Come out and see the old classic cars gathered around the courthouse square. The cruise-in will be held this month on a Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and you will see 60 - 70 classic cars, hear great music, door prizes and lots of fun! •10 a.m.-Come and join the Calvary Moravian Friends (C.M.F.) on their next adventure. We will be going to Glendale Springs, NC, to see the famous “Ben Long frescoes” at Holy Trinity Church. From there it’s just a few minutes until we’ll be enjoying the famous “lunches” at Shatley Springs Inn in Crumpler, NC. Mark your calendar now for Thursday, October 24, 2013. We will leave the Calvary Moravian Church back parking lot at 8:30AM and arrive in Glendale Springs, NC, (1 and 1/2 hours) at 10:00AM to view the frescoes at Holy Trinity. At 12 noon we will travel the short distance to Shatley Springs Inn for lunch from 12:15 to 2:15PM for great eating and fellowship. We should be back in Winston-Salem around 4:00PM. You need to make reservations for this trip by calling the Calvary Moravian Church Office at 336-722-3703. Give your name and contact information and list your preference of travel as: own transportation, or car pool, or activity bus. The cut-off date to register for this trip is October 18, 2013. Then we can make final travel plans and contact everyone.

•3 p.m.-5 p.m.-Again this year, there will be “Halloween Downtown”. The businesses will pass out treats to all the kids in our area. A costume contest will be held at The Willingham Theatre at the Arts Council. Cash and prizes will be given away and you must register by 4:45pm. A list of participating businesses and a map will be given to students at Yadkin County Schools or one of the volunteers the day of the event. This event is sponsored by The Town of Yadkinville, The Downtown Business Association, The Yadkin County Public Library and The Yadkin Arts Council.

•It was concluded at the PART Board Finance Committee meeting on October 1, 2013, that the regularly scheduled Board meeting for October has been canceled, due to a lack of agenda items. We planned our work to coincide with the next month’s meeting. Please note that the meeting scheduled for November 13th will resume at its regular time and location.

•Are you interested in being an advocate for residents in long-term care facilities in Yadkin County? The Community Advisory Committee needs volunteers who are committed to quality care in all Nursing and Adult Care Homes in Yadkin County. The committee is made up of local citizens who serve as advocates as they visit the Yadkin County long-term care facilities with other members of the committee once every 3 months. •Filing for Town Elections will begin Friday, July 5, 2013 at 12:00 Noon and ends Friday, July 19, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. Yadkin County has four Municipalities: Boonville, East Bend, Jonesville and Yadkinville. Municipal Elections will be Non-Partisan. Filing Fee will be $5.00. Voter Registration Deadline is Friday, October 11, 2013. Town Elections will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

•North Carolina Cost Share Funds


The Yadkin County Soil and Water Conservation District will be receiving its annual cost share allocation from the state for non-point source pollution from agriculture activities. These funds are available to assist farmers with the installation of conservation practices that help decrease the amount of sediment, nitrogen, phosphorus, chemicals, and other pollutants in the surface and ground waters of the state. Farm owners and operators may apply for cost share assistance to install conservation practices, and best management practices, such as poultry incinerators, poultry dry stacks, cattle watering systems, grassed waterways, etc. The deadline for applications is September 6th, 2013.

•8 a.m.-12 p.m.-The Farmington Farmers Market opens May 11 and will be open every Saturday from 8am - noon. It is held at the Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Rd, Mocksville. It provides homegrown produce and goods. You will find seasonal produce, plants, honey & jams, fresh eggs, goat’s milk soaps & lotions, and fresh baked goodies.
