EAST BEND — Bad Monkey Vapes, located at 109 N.C. 67, opened its doors in East Bend on June 11. The shop is owned and operated by Bill McQueen and his fiancée, Stacy Mazingo. They also have a location in Winston-Salem.
“I started this business three and a half years ago to help people stop smoking,” McQueen said. “I was three packs a day, the day I bought my first vape is the day I quit smoking and I haven’t touched a cigarette since.”
McQueen said the success rate for those looking to quit smoking by way of switching to a vape is around 85 to 90 percent.
The shop sells flavored vape juices they make in their lab in Winston-Salem and offer some from other companies as well. McQueen said he is happy to assist anyone looking to quit smoking by showing them the vape options at the shop.
The shop also has a small hangout area, and McQueen said vape shops are becoming the new neighbor pub, a place to hang out with friends and visit.
A Yadkin County native, McQueen said most of all he wanted folks to get a down-home feel when they visit Bad Monkey Vapes.
“We like people to feel comfortable and welcome when they come in here,” he said.
In the future, McQueen said he hopes to partner with other area businesses to build a stage area outside the shop to host local bands and performances for the community. The kick-off event on June 11 included live music from McQueen’s own band Flat Black Cadillac.
The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and closed on Sunday. For more information, call 336-699-2266.
