The Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program is an educational and volunteer service program. Selected participants receive 40 hours of in-depth training on a variety of horticultural topics. Within a year after completing the training, Master Gardener graduates are to perform at least 40 hours of extension-related volunteer service. A variety of activities are available for completing the volunteer component, such as youth and adult gardening programs, community beautification projects, fund raising, homeowner education, staffing exhibits and much more.
Continuing education opportunities are available at local, state and national levels for Master Gardener Volunteers through webinars, workshops, trips and tours. A statewide conference is held each year in North Carolina, which gives the volunteers an opportunity to network with other Master Gardeners from across the state and learn new gardening techniques from leading experts.
