DOBSON — Surry Community College’s Viticulture and Enology Department will be offering a Cold Damage Assessment and Management workshop Jan. 15, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. as part of the college’s grape growing class series.
Cold damage results in injury from fruiting positions or missing vines on a yearly basis in North Carolina vineyards. Knowing how to properly assess cold damage will help identify problems in your vineyard and encourage proper coverage strategies to avoid cold damage, as well as pruning techniques to compensate for bud damage from winter freeze events.
The workshop will meet at the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture & Enology, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. The fee is $30. Advanced registration and payment required. For more information, call 336-386-3618.
