The annual Yadkin Relay for Life will take place on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., at Starmount High School. Throughout the year, local teams raise funds for the event which benefits the American Cancer Society.
“We are happy to announce that the Rick Strickland Band, a popular beach music band, will be providing an evening of music and fun for us again this year,” said David Cox, one of the event organizers.
“Our Relay teams will have food and fun for the entire family in tents around the football field as in years past. People will be encouraged to walk on Starmount’s rubber track in honor or memory of a loved one who has faced the challenge of cancer. Luminaries will circle the track and be lit at dusk to honor our survivors and to remember those lost.”
Leading up to Friday’s event, the group already has raised $48,597.
“Last year we met our goal of $110,000 which is our goal again this year. We are almost half way there,” said Cox.
