County Manager Lisa Hughes and Commissioner David Moxley took media representatives on a tour of the closed Yadkin Valley Community Hospital Monday afternoon. Former hospital operator HMC/CAH was ordered by the Federal Court last Wednesday to turn over the keys and vacate the building.
Hughes said that there was some clean up to be done in the wake of HMC’s hasty departure from the building. Unfiled medical records are one of the biggest issues left behind the group. Most of the equipment is still at the facility though HMC did take the endoscopy equipment.
Hughes said that the biggest issue facing the hospital involves acquiring new licensing to operate. She estimated that it would take around 120 days before the facility could reopen under new management.
The county is still working to find a new group to take over operation of the hospital.
