Starmount librarian receives grant

Starmount Librarian Suzie Thomasson was presented with a grant from the Yadkin County Community Foundation at last night’s meeting of the Yadkin County School Board.

“We are very grateful to the Yadkin County Community Foundation for this grant,” Thomasson said. “The grant will enable us to purchase new science, technology, engineering and math books to support student learning in the STEM areas.”

Bonnie Lasky said, “On behalf of the Yadkin County Community Foundation, Hope Hardy and I, who serve on the Foundation’s Grants Committee, are pleased to present this grant in the amount of $900 to Starmount High School and Mrs. Suzie Thomasson, School Library Media Coordinator, for the purchase of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) books. We recognize and appreciate Mrs. Thomasson’s and the Yadkin County School Board’s dedication to ensuring our students have the tools they need to be competitive as they look toward furthering their education.”

In other school related news, several administrative changes have been made at area schools. For the 2015-16 school year Anthony Davis will serve as Forbush Elementary principal, Ida Weisner as Jonesville Elementary principal and Lavonne Fortner as East Bend Elementary principal. Denny Key will serve as assistant principal at Forbush Middle School and Chris Petree as assistant principal at Starmount High School.
