WIC or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program provides supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and community resources to participants. The Yadkin County WIC Program is available at 217 E. Willow St., Yadkinville. Individuals may apply for the WIC Program on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by phone at 336-679-4210.

Many working families and those on unemployment may be eligible for WIC. Those receiving Medicaid, Food Stamps, or Work First are also eligible for WIC.

WIC provides monthly vouchers to buy healthy foods, including fruits and vegetables, one-on-one nutrition counseling and education with tips, breastfeeding support and promotion and referrals for health and community resources.

The following are examples of monthly WIC Income Guidelines (before taxes)

• Family of 2* earning up to $2,470 per month

• Family of 4* earning up to $3,747 per month

• Family of 6* earning up to $5,023 per month

*Include each unborn child in family size.
