What began four weeks ago as a Christian youth camp hosted at an area church, has now grown into a full-fledged tent revival at Northwood Baptist Church in Yadkinville.
Jonathan Barker, pastor of Amazing Grace Baptist Church, is also the director of Foothills Youth Fellowship. The group hosted its first youth camp last year.
This year’s event began on June 27 and saw great success and response from those in attendance. As the week drew to a close, the group decided to extend the event one more night. As more and more youth and adults continued to come out for the services, it was decided that the event should begin a second week.
The word continued to spread and soon the church was no longer large enough to accommodate the amount of people coming. Barker said at the point they decided to purchase a large tent so they could continue the services, now being called Foothills Revival.
“Last week we probably averaged 1,200 to 1,300 people a night,” Barker said. Other area churches have also become involved, Barker said. At Friday’s service there were 76 preachers from around the area. John Dorsey, a preacher from Georgia, has been leading the services. The Foothills Youth Choir performs as well as other local singers at each service.
Barker said they plan to continue the services this week and possibly into next week.
Services are held Monday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. each night under the tent at 1309 Northwood Church Road.
