The Yadkin County Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be at the Yadkin Farmers Market on July 26 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with gardening information, free soil sample kits and recipe cards.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend, have questions answered, and pick up free recipe cards for ideas to use summer produce.
Free soil sample kits will be available to determine the lime and fertilization needs of lawns, gardens, flowerbeds and other areas in the yard. The market will also give away its monthly produce basket of market goodies.
The Yadkin Farmers Market is open on Tuesdays, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 15. It is located at 1141 Tennessee Street in Yadkinville. If traveling on 601 N, pass through downtown Yadkinville, and turn right at the Yadkinville Community Park and Papa John’s Pizza on Tennessee Street. The market shelter is just ahead on the left behind the park.
The market has a little something for everyone. Sweet corn is coming in, along with plenty of green beans, squash, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Melons should be available anytime and blueberries are just wrapping up. The market offers homemade baked goods, soaps and dog treats, as well as local beef, pork, honey and fresh eggs. Like the Yadkin Farmers Market on Facebook and find weekly updates for product availability.
The market is open to farmers that reside in Yadkin and adjacent counties and allows no reselling of produce or other products. Local producers of fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, honey, baked goods, dairy products, plants, and traditional farm crafts are invited to apply. For a vendor application and rules, please visit the local foods tab at http://yadkin.ces.ncsu.edu or contact Yadkin County Cooperative Extension at 336- 679-2061.
