Rain or shine, wine lovers are expected to flock to Elkin on Saturday for the 15th annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival.

There will be 27 wineries from the Yadkin Valley at this year’s festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m as well as food trucks, craft vendors and live music.

A rainy forecast is predicting for Saturday, but Misty Matthews of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce said the event will go on as planned and there will still be plenty of fun to be had.

“We’re looking for another record breaking year this year,” said Chamber President Myra Cook. “We’re looking forward to the returning attendees that come year after year from miles away. Some people plan their vacation around the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival. We’ve had people get engaged there, and then after they get married come back and let us know. So we’re looking forward to new attendees and the folks that have been coming for years.”

Performing this year will be Taylor Vaden’s Tribute to Elvis from noon to 2 p.m. and headliners Phatt City from 3 to 5 p.m. Between the music will be the grape stomp, a favorite activity for kids and adults alike.

Gary Maxey, who was most recently seen on stage in Elkin in a production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” portrays the wine god Bacchus every year at the festival. He made a special guest appearance in his full Bacchus regalia on a TV station in Charlotte last week to promote the festival. In addition to sharing a bit about the festival’s history and information about the ever-growing viticulture industry, Maxey stressed that the event is family friendly.

Advance tickets for the festival are $22 and can be purchased online at www.yvwf.com or at the Chamber of Commerce, located at 116 E. Market St. in Elkin, through Friday. Tickets at the gate the day of the festival are $30. In recognition of Armed Forces Appreciation Day, veterans with ID may purchase tickets at the gate for $20. Parking is available on site at a cost of $5 per vehicle, which goes to the Elkin Volunteer Rescue Squad. Shuttle service is available from nearby hotels in Elkin and Jonesville from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at a cost of $5 per person.
