The fifth annual NWRL Ride for Readers will be held on June 11 and is being hosted by Freeborne’s Eatery and Lodge in Laurel Springs this year. The cost to ride is $30 for riders, $20 for passengers, and children 12 and younger ride free.
Riders can plan their own route or leave from Freeborne’s at 9:30 a.m. and follow the preset route. They may register in advance at Freeborne’s or at any NWRL branch. Registration also is accepted at check in. At 1:30 p.m., after the ride the public is invited to join them for lunch, live music, a Poker run and prizes. For more information, call 336-359-8008. Art from high school art students attending Forbush and Starmount will be on display in the library from May 9-25. There will be a reception on May 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. The reception is open to the public. The Yadkin County United Fund, Boonville Women’s Club and Yadkin County Public Library are sponsoring this event.
Summer Reading Programs will be held on Wednesdays, June 15 through July 27, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Movies will be shown on Mondays, beginning June 13 at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” All of the programs are free and for all ages. A knitting class series is being offered at the library on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will begin with learning the basic knitting stitches and begin knitting a beginner scarf or dishcloth. Classes are taught by Michelle Spillman of Yadkinville. Knitting classes are free and open to the public with all materials provided. No advanced registration is required.
Preschool Storytime will be held on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Preschool Storytime is open for preschoolers, ages 2 to 5, and is free and open to the public. Make plans to bring your child or grandchild for an hour of stories and crafts. As a reminder, Preschool Storytime will have their last storytime on May 26 and will take a short break and then resume on June 16 and continue until July 28.
If you are you interested in tracing your family roots or need help in learning to use Ancestry.com, the library offers a free workshop, with volunteers, J.E. Brown and Patricia Rogers. Classes are now being offered on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. or Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Yadkin County Public Library. In addition, all NWRL libraries offer free access to the Ancestry.com Library Edition throughout this year. No advanced registration is required and all workshops are free and open to the public. Come join us for an informative session.
NC Works staff, formerly known as the Employment Security Commission, will be at the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays for job assistance. Assistance will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed an hour for lunch. For questions, contact them at 336-312-9960. The library will be closed on May 30 for the Memorial Day holiday and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on May 31. Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
