A multiple-vehicle involved accident over the weekend left two people dead. Emergency Services Operations Manager James Collins said emergency personnel were dispatched to an accident on U.S. 601 just south of Shore Road around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Collins said first responders on the scene reported multiple people trapped and multiple people injured. Two individuals were pronounced dead on the scene, one was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and a fourth individual refused treatment.
According to a rough draft of the report from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, driver Douglas Duane Wall was traveling north on U.S. 601 when his vehicle went off the side of the road. After overcorrecting, Wall’s vehicle sideswiped a vehicle, driven by Kenneth Ray Williams, in the southbound land and hit a third vehicle, driven by Phillip Ray Williams, head on. Wall and Phillip Ray Williams died from injuries sustained in the crash.
