The Yadkin County Community Foundation has awarded $1,000 to the Summer Enrichment Program, sponsored by West Yadkin Missional Network of the United Methodist Church. Kenneth Reavis, a board member, was on hand Tuesday night at Center UMC, when Dr. Bonnie Preston Harris made the announcement.

Reavis said the award is from the foundation’s 2015 Community Grants Program.

Dr. Harris, pastor at Center UMC, heads the program being sponsored by 10 area churches. This is the third year such a summer program has been held at Yadkinville UMC. The churches provide transportation for some 65 children from the first through sixth grades.

The program operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning June 23 and ends on Aug. 13. Participants will be served lunch, as well as provided a bag of groceries to take home on Thursdays.

A host of volunteers is being recruited to assist with the structured program which includes a wide variety of activities. Volunteers are sought for individual sessions, or longer if time permits and should contact one of the host churches. They are: Center, Mitchell’s Chapel, Boonville, Yadkinville, Longtown, Saint Paul’s, Mountain Grove, Asbury, Harmony Grove and Mt. Olive.
