West Jefferson Park, formally known as Bowie-Seagraves Municipal Park, has plenty to offer for children and adults alike.
The park has up-to-date tennis courts, basketball court, baseball field and playground equipment for the youngest at heart. The park also offers picnic tables, two shelters and is within walking distance to the shops and restaurants in downtown West Jefferson.
The park is very much pet-friendly with lots of open space for those favorite pets to enjoy a day outside in the High Country.
For those who would like to take a leisurely stroll or jog through the park, a paved trail with lighting is available for use as well.
The park and the town of West Jefferson were even featured in an article in the January, 2016 edition of WNC Magazine. The article ranked the best small towns in Western North Carolina and West Jefferson was ranked at number 10 with Bowie-Seagraves Municipal Park being mentioned as one of the best attractions the town has to offer.
Not only do tourists find the park as a nice, charming spot to play games and just relax, local Ashe County natives also enjoy the park for what it has to offer.
“I enjoy coming here, especially when I am babysitting. The kids can run around and play and I feel safe having them up here,” said Rachel Robbins. “They all enjoy the slides and the swings and playing with other children at the playground.”
Robbins is one of many county and town residents who like to spend time at the park on any given day.
The park is a great place to host bigger events as well, including family reunions, high school reunions and birthday parties. Both shelters at the park can be reserved by calling West Jefferson Town Hall.
