The fourth annual Insane Terrain 5K benefiting the Elkin Valley Trails Association will be held this Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Elkin Municipal Park. Although registration was encouraged by Oct. 7, runners, walkers and hikers can still participate at a cost of $30 by logging on to insaneterrain5k.itsyourrace.com.
The money earned through this event will be used for the trail from Elkin Municipal Park to Stone Mountain State Park, part of the state Mountains-to-Sea trail. A cash prize of $125 will be awarded to the first-place female and male winners. There also will be awards for various age groups.
The course will cross Big Elkin Creek making use of the two new bridges, as well as the new mountain bike course near Elkin Reservoir. Some of the terrain will be hilly, though it will end with a “flat fast finish to the park.” All of the terrain will be exposed to views of autumn leaves and other natural beauty.
