Registration is going on now for the YMCA Fit Family 5K, scheduled for Nov. 19, at 9:30 a.m. The run is intended to help build healthy habits with children and families by partnering with Yadkin County elementary and middle schools for student participation.
The Yadkin Family YMCA and Yadkin County have partnered to host the event, which begins at the Collide Church.
Yadkin County elementary and middle school students in grades third through eighth have been participating in a 10-week comprehensive program that promotes healthy eating habits, physical activity, goal setting, good character and self-confidence. After the 10-week program, students will participate in the YMCA Fit Family 5k along with other members of the community.
“The YMCA Fit Family 5k helps children at all fitness levels find healthy activities they enjoy,” said Amanda Hurley, senior engagement director for the Yadkin Family YMCA. “This is a great event whether you are a serious runner or just starting out and plan to walk or jog. You can show your support for kids in our community getting active and staying healthy at the event.”
Registration before Nov. 1 is $25, after Nov. 1 it is $30 and $35 on race day. Race T-shirts are only guaranteed to 5k participants who register early. Individuals may register in person at the Yadkin Family YMCA or visit yadkinymca.org for more information.
