Yadkin County Cooperative Extension recently hosted a Progressive Ag Safety Camp at the Lone Hickory Arena. The mission of the Progressive Ag Safety Days is to provide education, training and resources to make farm and rural life safer for children and their communities.
The Progressive Ag Safety Day Program is the largest rural safety and health education program in North America. Lone Hickory Arena hosted the event which was sponsored by Yadkin County Farm Bureau, Cheek Farm, North Carolina Cooperative Extension and Yadkin County 4-H.
Presenters included representatives from the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Marshal, Yadkinville Fire Department, NC State University, Yadkin County Human Services Department, NC Agromedicine Institute, and Surry Yadkin Electric.
Topics included: ATV Safety, Firearm and Personal Safety, High Voltage and Electric Safety, Fire Safety, Tractor/PTO and Chemical Safety.
Both adults and youth participated in the event. Positive outcomes included increased knowledge about how to be safe and what to do in the case of an emergency.
