Historic Spillman community to be discussed

Staff Report

The Yadkin County Historical Society and Mount Zion Baptist Church will present an open discussion on the historic Spillman community of Yadkin County on June 11 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2725 E. Old U.S. 421 Highway, Yadkinville.

Pioneer families include Adams, Carter, Chinn, Davis, Dowling, Dinkins, Hutchens, Matthews, Mitchell, Myers, Speer, Spillman and Williams.

Andrew Mackie of the Yadkin County Historical Society will lead the program, which is free to anyone who is interested. For the past year, Mackie, Barbara Spillman Hutchens, Ann Shelton Black and others identified more than 20 private and abandoned family cemeteries in the area and located important historic sites. However, more information needs to be found and understood.

Participants are encouraged to bring photographs, family Bibles and other materials. Interesting stories are always welcome. Contact Andrew Mackie at 336-428-8471, or andrewmackie@yadtel.net.
