Tax time has arrived, and myfreetaxes.com is available on the NWRL website, www.nwrl.org, for qualifying taxpayers to use. Individuals and families with household incomes $62,000 and below qualify to use the “my free taxes” link. You may file both federal and state taxes (up to three states) online. Filers may begin using the site as of Jan. 11 and the IRS will begin accepting returns on Jan. 19. In addition, free tax assistance is available at the Alleghany, Boonville, East Bend, Elkin and Yadkinville libraries by appointment only, as part of the Northwest NC Community VITA Tax Link, for those making less than $54,000. Preschool Storytime will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Storytime programs are for preschoolers, ages 2 to 5 years, providing an educational and enjoyable reading experience along with age appropriate crafts.
If you are you interested in tracing your family roots or need help in learning to use Ancestry.com, the library offers a free workshop, with volunteers, J.E. Brown and Patricia Rogers. Classes are now being offered on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. or Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Yadkin County Public Library. In addition, all NWRL libraries offer free access to the Ancestry.com Library Edition throughout this year. No advanced registration is required and all workshops are free and open to the public. A knitting/crocheting class series is being offered at the library on Tuesdays from 12-1 p.m. Participants will begin with learning the basic knitting/crocheting stitches and making a beginner scarf or dishcloth. Classes are taught by Michelle Spillman of Yadkinville. Knitting classes are free and open to the public. No advanced registration is required. Already know how to knit or crochet? You can still join us to collaborate and share ideas, techniques and patterns.
