The Yadkin Family YMCA hosted its Go Far 5K Saturday in downtown Yadkinville. The race is part of the YMCA’s ongoing mission to encourage a healthy active lifestyle for kids and their families.

“We want to get our families out and active and together trying to live a healthier lifestyle,” said YMCA Relationship Specialist Lia Martinez. “We have all of our kids out here running and we’re really excited and really thankful for the opportunity to help with the kids.”

Area schools have been working with youth in grades three through six this year to train them for running a 5K.

Martinez said they also were grateful for the work the schools had done in promoting the event and training the kids to run the race.

There were more than 300 participants at the Go Far 5K, Martinez said, ranging in age from 8 years old to age 69.
