EAST BEND — Historic Richmond Hill will host an inaugural Civil War Authors’ Gathering on Oct. 17 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at 4641 Law School Road in East Bend. Historians of America’s Civil War will gather at Historic Richmond Hill for a meet, greet, book sale and book signing.
Civil War period songs and storytelling will be presented by Pamala Branscum through the support of the Yadkin Arts Council. The 28th NC Troops Yadkin Stars & Yadkin Boys will present drill demonstrations.
Attending authors at the event will include Michael C. Hardy, historian, re-enactor, author of 20 books. He will bring his latest title: “The Capitals of the Confederacy.” Doug Butler will speak on Civil War monuments in the state and will have copies of his book, “North Carolina Civil War Monuments.” Jeff Halsey, Imaging Specialists, will bring “Four Brother in Gray — Wilkes County’s Proffit Brothers’ Civil War letters.”
Mike Marcela brings a story of the role ministers played on the Civil War battlefields/hospitals in his “Angel of Mercy.” Martha R. Brown brought her great-grandfather’s Civil War letters back to life in her novel, “Holding Sweet Communion.” A selection of Civil War books by the late Frances H. Casstevens also will be for sale.
All proceeds from the sale of Casstevens’ books benefit the Yadkin County Public Library.
