Mrs. Mary Ellen Winfrey, of Rockford Road, Yadkinville, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was 90.

She was born July 5, 1920 in Yadkin County to the late Nelson and Amanda Money Groce. 

Mrs. Winfrey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family and friends. She was a faithful member of Mt. Nebo Church of Christ as long as her health permitted.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband, Alton Winfrey; a daughter-in-law, Donna Winfrey; two sisters, Eula Dobbins, Beulah “Sis” Sneed; and by a brother, Elwood Groce. 

She is survived her loving sons, Lawrence and wife Robin Winfrey of Boonville; Odell and wife Rita Winfrey of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Kenny and wife Tammy Winfrey, Joseph Winfrey, Mason Winfrey, Teddy Winfrey, Paula and husband Scott Bryant, Robin and husband Greg Hutchens, and Heather Davis; great-grandchildren, Ansley Reece Bryant, Brittany, Laken, and Rachel Winfrey, Reagan Davis, Andrea and Dustin Hutchens, Brooke Winfrey, Landon Winfrey; and two sisters, Betty and husband R.L. Steelman of Yadkinville; Mildred Wiseman of High Point.

The family received friends Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her funeral service was held Monday July 19, 2010, at the Gentry Family Chapel by Brother Rickey McCollum and Brother Phillip Willard. Burial followed in the Boonville Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donors choice.
