Ready or not here comes the Tri-State Youth Rodeo Association and its new Lone Hickory Indoor Arena located on Bethel Church Road Road.
A building viewing is set for July 17 for the Lone Hickory Indoor Arena.
A Brittany Casstevens Memorial Rodeo is set for July 24. When one turns onto Reavis Road, turn right after about a mile.
The sneak peak at the new indoor arena grounds will be held from 3 p.m. to until on July 17.
"The main idea for this facility is to bring together children, not only from the Yadkin County communities, but for the youth from all communities of every walk of life from everywhere to have a place to gather to fellowship, have fun, and enjoy wholesome family-oriented events," said Association Director Vivian Leftwich.
"Lenuel Chamberlain, community member, had a vision," she said. "He doesn't want any praise for it. I respect him for that."
“I just want to do something for all the kids,” says Chamberlain.
His idea caught on in the spring. Construction on the arena complex began soon after. Chamberlain is hoping to have the construction completed in the fall of this year.
July 17 is a special day of remembrance, Leftwich said.
On the same date last year July 17, 2009, Brittany Casstevens, lost her life in a tragic automobile accident. Brittany was the daughter of W.J. and Regina Casstevens, sister to Allison Blevins and a founding member of Tri State Youth Rodeo Association.
"In her honor, Tri-State Flag Girls, Mary Alice Tuttle, Kacey Payne, Madison Apple and Bronwyn Apple will be performing a memorial on horseback. Also there will be an auction of various donated items in which all proceeds along with any monetary donations will go to the Brittany Casstevens Memorial College Scholarship Fund," said Leftwich.
Tri-State Youth Rodeo Association will have the Brittany Casstevens Memorial Rodeo at the Circle G Arena in Harmony at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 24. All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. This will be an annual event every year.
Last year Tri-State offered $6,000 in scholarships in memory of Brittany to three very deserving young individuals headed to college. Tri-State’s goal this year is to raise $10,000 for the Brittany Casstevens Memorial College Scholarship.
The events being demonstrated during the rodeo will be "Pee Wee Muttin' Bustin," goat tying, goat dogging, pole bending, breakaway roping, calf riding, junior pole bending, jackpot bareback, cowboy goat tying, junior chute dogging, and bull riding.
The contestants will be vying to become, in their respective age categories, Peewee Cowgirl, Junior Cowgirl, Jackpot Cowgirl, Junior Cowboy, and Jackpot Cowboy.
The building is located on Bethel Church Road outside of Yadkinville off U.S. 421. This facility is on 22 acres, and the building is 200 feet by 340 feet. The facility will have indoor bathrooms, indoor concessions, an indoor chapel and a rodeo arena 120 feet by 210 feet.
This facility is being built for children of all walks of life who are interested in riding lessons, rodeo or just maybe coming to sit down and watch a youth rodeo.
Directions are from U.S. 77, take Exit 65 (Harmony, Union Grove) turn right if coming from the Charlotte-Statesville area, or left if coming from Mt. Airy/Virginia area, which is N.C. 901. Stop at the traffic signal at the intersection in Harmony. Continue through the signal and drive another four miles. The arena will be on the right-hand side of the road. Watch for signs.
