Willowbrook Rehabilitation & Care Center in Yadkinville has an innovative fundraiser underway - selling personalized pavers for its new Memory Lane project.

“The project that we are working on is called Memory Lane. It is a sidewalk project that we did out to the side of the building so that we would have more room and more area to take our residents who are here just out for a stroll, out for a walk. We have no where to push them. So we thought we would have an area where it is almost like a memory park," said Deborah Icenhour, assistant activity director at the center.

She said the name of the project was chosen after residents of the center were polled about what name would best represent the area where the pavers will be installed.

“Angel Parrish, the activities director, said this is like a walk down memory lane,” Icenhour said.

“So we said that’s what we need to call it. We sold bricks. We offered bricks in memory of people to raise the money for this project,” said Icenhour

Each brick is $50, and the money will finish paying for the project.

Brian Southaland did the work for the center.

“It looks really good,” she said. “We have one bench out there that was donated by Lowe’s in Mocksville. He poured areas out to the side where we could set benches. We were hoping to get a couple more to make it pretty.

“We had three benches poured so people could sit out there. Lowe’s donated two little statue angels out there. They were very kind. It’s really a good project. We are really hoping to get more bricks out there.”

The center is located at 333 East Lee Ave., Yadkinville. For more information or to help with the project with a donation, call 679-8028.
