RALEIGH — Candidate Josh Brannon claimed the victory in the democratic primary run-off for the 5th Congressional District.

Brannon received 2, 748 votes and opponent Gardenia Henley received 1,443 votes in the run-off. In November, Brannon will face off against long-time 5th Congressional District representative, Virginia Foxx, who is serving her fifth term.

As part of his social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter Brannon has often used the term “out foxx.” Following his win in the primary run-off, he posted the election results to his Facebook campaign page with the message “Ok, you convinced me, let’s do this. #outfoxx.”

Brannon was not available for comment on his win.

Foxx said, “Voters will have a clear choice this fall. My conservative track-record of fighting for lower taxes, smaller government and the end of executive overreach could not be more different than my liberal opponent’s big-government philosophy and support of the Obama administration’s reckless agenda.”
