Gov. Pat McCrory has proclaimed April 26 through May 10 Litter Sweep time in North Carolina and encourages all North Carolinians to participate in the statewide roadside litter cleanup. Litter Sweep provides an opportunity for state and local governments, civic groups, businesses, schools, churches, professional organizations, families and others to volunteer in keeping North Carolina clean and beautiful.
North Carolina Cooperative Extension and the Yadkin County Beautification Committee will hold a litter cleanup on May 3 from 8 a.m. to noon, during the statewide spring Litter Sweep. The group will meet at 8 a.m. in the large municipal parking lot located near the courthouse in downtown Yadkinville to organize and prepare for work on the roadside.
Those interested in joining the cleanup efforts or know of a certain road in need of cleanup, contact Colleen Church with Cooperative Extension at 679-2061, Crystal Sprague with the Yadkin County Beautification Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org or Megan Pack-Brown with the Yadkin County Beautification Committee at email@example.com.
All necessary cleanup supplies will be provided on the day of the event. After each cleanup, NCDOT picks up the bags of litter for disposal at the local landfill. To learn more about Litter Sweep go to www.ncdot.gov/~beautification or call 1-800-331-5864.
