Elkin resident and high school senior Maggie Walker recently signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Pfeiffer University upon graduation.

Walker is a soccer player for Forsyth Home Educators varsity team set to begin her fourth season for the Hawks under Head Coach Jean Moser and Assistant Coach Mike Moser.

Meanwhile, Walker said she is excited about making the upcoming transition from a FHE Hawk into a Pfeiffer Falcon under Head Coach Elijah Denton.

Pfeiffer womens varsity soccer team won the 2013 Conference Carolinas title. Walker said she will be up for the challenge as a collegiate freshman player by exercising high standards for herself during her senior year.

Walker played center mid-field and forward position with the Yadkinville Soccer Association Fury team under coaches Kenan James of Forbush High School and Jay Funk. Walker was selected to play in the 2012 and 2013 Powerade State Games with Coach James and Coach Brown of Rowan High School, where they won silver.

James called Walker a smart and technical player of strong character. “She is a leader,” said James.

Walker recounted a time when James said to players, “If you don’t head the ball in, you don’t play.”

In a following tournament, Walker headed the ball in and scored the winning goal.

In addition, Walker has played with Triad Elite Soccer Club under Coach Brad Frank.

Parents Stephanie and Scott Walker said they look forward to traveling to Pfeiffer games in full support of their daughter.

Walker is a honor roll student and holds a high school GPA of 3.96. Her plans are to major in nursing while at Pfeiffer.

With another goal already in mind upon college graduation, Walker hopes to head-in her nursing skills, however, this time on the mission field.
