EAST BEND — The Lady Falcons posted a 1-2 mark against Wilkes County schools last week, winning the finale against East Wilkes Friday night.
After a late charge came up short against West Wilkes Tuesday night, Forbush returned home Wednesday against former Mountain Valley Conference rival Wilkes Central.
The Eagles grabbed a 13-6 lead in the first quarter before pushing the advantage out to double-digits at the break. Central’s lead grew to 15 at the end of three, 41-26, before the Falcons staged another late comeback.
Forbush opened the fourth on an 18-3 run to trim the deficit down to two at 46-44. But the Eagles knocked down their free throws to hold for the 55-48 victory.
Kala Doub and Jessica Funk paced the Falcons with 12 points apiece, while Brittany Moose added 10. Calyn Davis added eight points — all coming in the fourth quarter.
Forbush bounced back with a rout of East Wilkes Friday, 58-40.
The Falcons came out on fire, out-scoring the Cardinals 19-6 in the first quarter to take a commanding lead.
Forbush lead 34-25 at the break before using a 16-8 run in the third frame to put the finishing touches on the 18-point victory.
Moose (14 points), Davis (12) and Doub (11) once again reached double figures in scoring, while Paris Trivette added eight. Sidney Matthews tacked on four points with Funk tallying three.
The Falcons (3-3) returns to the court with three more games this week against West Wilkes, Starmount and East Wilkes. The Yadkin County rivals square off Wednesday in Boonville.
