MOUNT AIRY — Forbush capped its best season in a decade Friday night with a 24-14 statement victory against North Surry.

The win secured a winning record for the Falcons at 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the Western Piedmont Conference — their first winning season since a 12-2 campaign in 2004.

In the finale, Tyler Holden put Forbush on the board in a hurry, returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for the go-ahead score.

The Greyhounds answered and drove down the field where a Blaze Acord run was stuffed at the goal line. Acord fumbled into the endzone, but wideout Alex Edwards fell on the ball for the tying score, 7-7.

North’s Bo Wright then picked off Carson Fulp, returning the ball inside Falcon territory. Hunter Snow turned the turnover into points, finding paydirt from 11 yards out to put the Hounds ahead at 14-7.

Jordan Sawyers brought the Falcons back, breaking free on a 65-yard burst. Two plays later, Carson Fulp ran it in to knot the game at 14-all at the end of one.

Fulp then hit tight end Brady Willard on a 27-yard strike to put Forbush ahead for good, 21-14.

Josue Aguliar tacked on a 25-yard field goal, while Tyler Johnson sealed the game with an interception in the redzone as the Falcons hung on to win 24-14.

Sawyers gouged the North defense for a career-high 261 rushing yards on 27 carries (9.67 yards per carry), accounting for all but 78 of the Falcons’ 339 total yards on the night. The junior finished the regular season with 1325 yards on the ground and nine scores.

Fulp passed for 26 yards on 3-for-5 throwing, while rushing for 47 more.

Defensively, Cody Shrewsbury tallied 16 total tackles and three tackles for loss to power Forbush, while Zach Ragsdale added 15 tackles. The duo has combined for 193 tackles during the regular season (Shrewsbury 100, Ragsdale 93).

Cody Hayden recorded 11 tackles with Donovan Beavers and Holden adding eight stops apiece.
