Staff Report

April 30, 2013

Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office on April 26 received a report of identity theft from a victim living out of state.

Jose Luis Garcia- Rodriguez, 32, of Yadkinville was arrested and charged with 25 counts of identity theft and 25 counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, according to a sheriff’s office release.

The victim informed deputies that they had received a letter from the IRS indicating that they did not report their earnings in 2011 from working at Lydall. The victim said that they have never even been to the state of North Carolina, nor worked for Lydall.

The sheriff’s office contacted Lydall’s human resources department and confirmed that they had an employee there by the name of the victim.

Deputies interviewed the suspect at Lydall and discovered that fraudulent documents including a social security card and North Carolina identification card had been used to gain employment with Lydall under the victim’s name, according to the sheriff’s office release.

Garcia-Rodriguez was given a $25,000 secure bond.
