CHARLOTTE - Mountain Valley Conference champion Forbush will be well represented at this weekend’s 1A/2A North Carolina High School Athletic Association Swimming State Championships in Cary.
Senior Bryan Winters, junior Austin Doub and sophomores Noah Medwin and Tate Williams punched their ticket to the state championships at Saturday’s 1A/2A West Regional at Mecklenburg Aquatic Club in Charlotte.
Winters, Doub and Medwin qualified in four events each - two individual and two relays - while Williams will swim on the two relay squads.
At regionals, Winters powered his way to a fifth-place finish in the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:14.28. The conference swimmer of the year added a 11th-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:0124.
Medwin bested his teammate in the 100 yard backstroke, coming in fifth in a time of 57.83. He punched his second ticket with a third-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.87 - one of five swimmers to finish the race with a sub-23.00 time.
Doub rounded out Forbush’s impressive individual showing at regionals with a sixth-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.36. The junior became the third Falcon to qualify in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing 10th in a time of 1:00.22.
The trio, along with Williams, powered their way to two qualifications in relay races.
Forbush finished eighth in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:50.58. The team followed that up with a 11th-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.54.
The Falcons will compete Saturday at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary in the dual 1A/2A championships.
